Indiana State Police at Sellersburg report a fatal crash in Harrison County resulted in the death of a Daviess County doctor.

The call came in around 2:30-pm Wednesday when an eastbound semi experienced mechanical problems near the 99.5 mile marker on I-64 east of Corydon.

The semi lost power and the driver was unable to steer into the right lane or on the shoulder due to traffic and quickly slowed and stopped in the left lane.

The driver called 9-1-1 and then placed orange safety triangles behind the truck.

A short time later, a black Tesla T-3 driven by 50-year-old Suresh Kumar Lohano of Washington approached from the west but failed to merge into the right lane before hitting the rear of the semi.

Lohano was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was a family physician at Daviess Community Hospital certified in Internal Medicineand Pediatrics.

The eastbound lanes of I-64 were closed until after 6-pm as emergency personnel worked the scene.

The crash is still being investigated.
