A benefit for a facility to help the homeless happens this Saturday.

The event called “Cooter’s Cruise” will raise funds for First City Sunrise.

First City Sunrise is a non-profit working to provide temporary supportive housing and case management to those experiencing homelessness within our community.

Saturday’s benefit came as the result of a surprise 50th birthday party and cruise held last year for Ryan Decker, also known as “Cooter”.

The cruise and party were such a success it was decided to hold it every year and  raise funds to help a worthy cause.

Decker told us they settled on First City Sunrise as their choice this year because the organization is not just wanting to create a place for the homeless to gather.

Their mission is to provide a shelter where those in need could find help for the reason they found themselves without a home and work towards getting them back on their feet.

Cooter’s Cruise” starts at Noon at Burkhart Insurance on North 1st in Vincennes this Saturday.

Any vehicle is welcomed in the cruise with a registration fee of $25.  The cruise goes from Noon to 4:30.

After the return to Burkhart’s there will be food, live music, games, a live auction and other fundraising activities going until midnight.

Lots of local businesses have jumped in offering prizes and other donations.
