The Knox County Commissioners have honored Howard Hatcher for his long-standing dedication to public service in Vincennes and Knox County.

Hatcher, who served as both Chief of Police and Mayor of Vincennes, recently announced his retirement.

Since 2009 he has been working with the Knox County Health Department.

On Tuesday, the Commissioners passed a resolution highlighting Hatcher’s tireless work as the State Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for Knox County. In this role, Hatcher was instrumental in preparing the county for disaster situations, conducting emergency drills, and ensuring effective responses to emergencies.

Dr. Alan Stewart, County Health Officer, credited Hatcher with much of the planning and preparation that proved crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Commissioners noted that Hatcher’s contributions and dedication to the community will be deeply missed.
