The Vincennes University Board of Trustees demonstrated their commitment to the future of VU’s Aviation Flight Program during their regular meeting this week, approving a nearly $6.7 million investment in new aircraft.
The Board authorized the purchase of nine Cirrus SR20 airplanes for the Aviation Technology Center (ATC) in Indianapolis. Trustee Scott Brand highlighted the safety of the planes, calling them among the best in the industry.
To cover the $6,672,042 cost, VU plans to sell its current fleet for $2,976,000 and draw $2,768,782 from a plane replacement fund established in 2018. The remaining $927,260 will be covered by the university.
The new planes will replace the ATC’s existing fleet, supporting a program that prepares students for high-demand aviation careers.
