Shoals Couple Faces Neglect Charges

Authorities have released information concerning a recent child neglect case in Martin County.

Indiana State Police launched a criminal investigation on October 31st after receiving a report from the Department of Child Services about a two-month-old infant suffering from extreme weight loss.

According to investigators, the infant, who was allegedly neglected by 22-year-old Pearl Crowder and 23-year-old Isiah Beavers of Shoals, became unconscious from severe malnutrition. The child was first rushed to IU Bedford Emergency Hospital and later transferred to Riley Children’s Hospital, requiring emergency medical treatment to survive.

On December 13th, the Martin County Prosecutor’s Office issued arrest warrants for Crowder and Beavers. They were taken into custody without incident on December 16th by Martin County Sheriff’s deputies. Both are being held in the Martin County Jail on charges of Neglect of a Dependent Causing Catastrophic Bodily Injury, a Level 1 Felony.
