A major defense manufacturing facility is coming to Greene County.
The American Center for Manufacturing & Innovation and Prometheus Energetics announced plans to build a 550-acre production site for solid rocket motors and munitions. The facility will be part of the Department of Defense’s Munitions Campus Program and will be located near Crane Army Ammunition Activity in Bloomfield.
According to a story in the Southern Indiana Business Report, officials say the new site will strengthen the U.S. defense supply chain, drive innovation, and create new jobs. Prometheus Energetics, a partnership between Kratos Defense & Security Solutions and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, will serve as the anchor tenant for the campus, attracting other companies in the defense industry. The project aims to lower barriers for new startups while supporting established companies in developing next-generation military technology.
Leaders from Kratos, Rafael, and ACMI say the initiative will improve domestic manufacturing and enhance collaboration between the private sector and government agencies. Indiana officials also praised the project, highlighting the state’s growing role in national security and economic development.
Construction is set to begin in late 2025, and opening will be in phases starting in 2027.
President of the Greene County government and economic development leaders were pleased their county was chosen for the project citing the regions strong and growing focus on the defense industry.
