Applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 40, hold a high school diploma or GED, and meet certifications like Hazmat Awareness and Indiana Firefighter standards. New hires are also required to earn EMT certification in their first year.
The department responds to over 2,800 calls a year with four stations and promises growth opportunities, specialized training, and competitive pay. Starting salaries are over 54-thousand dollars, with first-class firefighter pay reaching 62-thousand after two years. Pension benefits and longevity pay are also part of the package.
