The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has arrested three people in a horse neglect case.

Authorities began investigating Rochelle Peterson of Shoals on January 15th, finding eight emaciated horses in deep frozen mud without food or water.

One horse had to be put down due to severe injuries.

The horses, also owned by Dakota and Mykaela Rice, were voluntarily surrendered and taken to a rehabilitation center.

Arrest warrants were issued, and all three suspects were taken into custody on February 6th, charged with animal cruelty.

They later posted bond.

The rescued horses are recovering at Sugar’s Ridge Ranch.
